Howard Ruse Associates has specialist experience of listed and other historic buildings, traditional Kentish oak-framed structures, churches & scheduled ancient monuments, most of which have structural components that were not formally designed by a structural engineer, but were selected by the craftsmen at the time from the available materials, such as riven or pre-used oak. We are commissioned by prospective purchasers or owners of at risk buildings.
We have the experience to advise on the structural adequacy of deteriorated structural components and the need for respectful repair using materials that are in keeping with the existing fabric where possible, conserving or if necessary replacing the original features.
A conservation engineered approach generally restores the structure of the building, whilst remaining historically correct.
